Deliver

Your heritage project may involve research, the collection of documents, the development of policies and strategies, packaging and cataloguing of records, conservation, digitisation and more.

There are many services available from local authority and specialist Archives throughout the UK and beyond, which can provide you with the professional support you need to deliver your project to the highest standard.

These services fall into two categories; Research and Collecting Archives:

Research

If you, your group or organization, are looking to research a specific aspect of local, regional or specialist heritage, it is likely that one of your first ports of call will be the associated archive. Archive services can help you with your research in a number of ways.

Collecting Archives

Your project may involve collecting archives from the local community.  Many documents and treasured possessions remain in people’s homes, with half-forgotten items stored in attics or on top of wardrobes.  Less tangible are those that lay in people’s memories, which can be collected by capturing oral histories.

Once gathered, these archives might be added to a community archive, deposited with a local Archive Service, collected through digitization or a mixture of all three.

Whatever your choice you can use archive services to help you develop policies, capture the information you need regarding ownership, rights and context, store and preserve the archives, and catalogue them in a way which ensures your work will last for generations to come.

Archive services can support you with your collection in a number of ways.
